Sparking new ideas
TEDxYouth
Inter-School Aquathlon Series @ The Meadows
‘The Spark’ was the theme of this year’s
TEDxYouth event at EIS initiated under
the umbrella of TEDx, an American
internationally-renowned
non-profit
organisation whose mission is to spread
new ideas.
Running in its third year at the Jumeirah
campus, Grade 12 students worked
collaboratively to organise the event,
striving to make it bigger and increasingly
successful. The EIS speakers and
performers included students from
ages twelve to eighteen, who spoke
EIS Meadows has successfully hosted
three Aquathlon (swim/run) races
throughout the year with almost 250
students taking part from Dubai and
Abu Dhabi. Spearheading the event
organisation team at Meadows is

Basrai, Kiran Khurana, Tamara Rasoul,
Sidharth Hemanth, Lana Abu Risheh,
Elsa Haddad, Prarthana Kanagaratnam,
Amulya Shanker and Dhruva Nair,
and teacher in-charge, Liam Bergin.
Ashdeep commented, “The event was
aimed at displaying the immense talent
present in the student body of EIS
Jumeirah, and celebrating their potential
and ingenuity”.
A large audience included students,
parents, teachers and staff, along with
several TEDx fans in Dubai. The entire
event was streamed live on the event’s
YouTube channel (TEDxYouth) and can

It was the first year for TEDxYouth at
the Meadows campus. A total of five
students between the ages of 15-18
participated in the public speaking event
led by Khyati Bhatia from Grade 12.
Ashdeep Seth (Grade 12) proudly holds the
2014 Sharjah Award for Excellence
PE). Event sponsors that made the race
a success included Diamond Lease Car
Rental.
Medals were awarded to winners in
three categories beginning with students
9-13 years old, who completed a 200m
swim straight into a 1.8km run around
the lake. The second category included
those between the ages of 14-15
competing in a 250m swim and a 2.5km
run. Students 16-18 were faced with a
challenging 300m swim followed by a
3km run.
