Chairman joins elite panel
at the opening of the
Middle East Leadership Research Centre
Khalaf Al Habtoor was a leading
panelist at the launch of the University
of Cambridge’s Judge Business School
Middle East Leadership Research
Centre (MELRC) on May 14, 2014. The
event, which was held at the American
University of Sharjah, was attended
by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan
Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Member
of Supreme Council of the UAE, Ruler
of Sharjah, and President of American
University of Sharjah and a number of
senior dignitaries from academia and
the business world.
The Chairman was part of an A-list
panel made up of key business
leaders and policy makers from across
the GCC who gave their views on
the ‘Challenges and Opportunities
for Growth and Diversification of
Businesses in the Middle East’. Other
panelists included HE Sheikha Bodour
Bint Sultan Al Qassimi, Chairperson of
Sharjah Investment and Development
Authority (Shurooq); Khalid A. Al-Falih,
President and CEO of Saudi Aramco;
and Dr. Tawfeeq Almoayed, Founding
Chairman and Managing Director, Gulf
Petro-Chemical Industries Company.
Al Habtoor said that the biggest
challenge that companies face in the
GCC is human capital. He said that the
GCC needs to overcome shortages
in talent and ensure a sustainable
environment conducive for human
capital - particularly at the managerial
level.

of UAE, Khalaf Al Habtoor emphasised
the continuous support of the UAE
government in fulfilling the mission of
the Nation’s founders and cultivating
an environment rewarding hard work
and discipline. The Chairman said
that “the most difficult thing in life is
discipline, if you sleep early, wake up
early, go to work early, have lunch early,
have dinner early, do sports and sleep
early… this is one of the keystones of
success.”
