On Sunday November 2, 2015 EIS-
Meadows hosted a community musical
event featuring the Desford Colliery
Brass Band from England.
The event was presented by Al
Habtoor Motors and also supported by
Diamondlease and Tangerine. Money
was raised from the ticket sales and
refreshments towards a community
music project for the primary school
children. The audience enjoyed over
three hours of top-notch entertainment
on the school field, involving music
from the band and students from the
school. The Parent Community Group
Thirty-one students from EIS-
Jumeirah Years 9-12 participated
in an eight day service learning trip
to Cambodia from November 6-14,
2014. Students led lessons and

EIS - Meadows Principals Leonard Murphy
and Carmel Platt with Nigel Seaman,
Conductor for the Desford Colliery Brass
Band
and students from the High School
organized the evening.
The Desford Band is one of the most
famous brass bands in the world and
approached by EIS-Meadows High
School Deputy Principal, David Evans,
to arrange a concert at the school.
David was a member of the band
during the 1980’s when they won the
National Brass Band Championships
at the Royal Albert Hall in London. This
event was the first time that a premier
brass band had performed an outdoor
concert in Dubai and was part of the
band’s tour of the UAE and Thailand.
the community houses.
They shared their thoughts and
feelings after the trip, “It was hot,
thrilling, tiring, extremely rewarding
and reminded us all of our
responsibilities to world communities
as global citizens and our shared
stewardship of the planet.”
The
work
that
EIS-Jumeirah
completed and the money the
students raised will help finish off
the staff accommodation at the
local school along with plans for
an incinerator to be installed in the
local community to deal with rubbish
disposal. Great work!
