Emirates International School
welcomed award-winning British
Contemporary & Fine Islamic Artist,
Publisher and Graphic Designer
Siddiqa Juma on Thursday 16
November 2017.
The gathering, which was held at the
EIS-Jumeirah High School Theatre
saw more than 200 students and VIP
guests witness the unveiling of several
unique art pieces.
Primary School Principal Barbara
Exley and Jennifer McGirr, Visual
Art Coordinator spoke about the
importance of celebrating cultural
heritage and contemporary Islamic
art as well as giving them a voice
and a platform to reach international
audiences in their opening remarks.
“Our Year 6 pupils have been learning
about Rights and Responsibilities .
To create interdisciplinary links within
their learning, we connected that
topic to our learning in art class. We
explored artists who use their artwork
to promote positive social themes and
convey a message. Siddiqa Juma’s
artwork centers on themes of Unity
and Diversity, these are important
values for our school. Year 6 were
keen to promote the fact that we are
all different and unique yet united as
pupils of the school and citizens of
Dubai.”
Juma’s paintings remained on display
at EIS from 19-23 November.
