Working at the Head Office
of a big group like the Al Habtoor Group
has its challenges. However, when you find the owner gives you the right to treat the
company as yours, and find all employees as ‘one team’, this is enough to motivate
you to put in your best effort at work. This is what makes you not think about leaving
the company for external temptations.
A chance meeting at a football match in 1995 presented an unexpected opportunity
for me which turned into the next 17 years of my career! A friend of mine at the time
who was the coach of the Metropolitan Hotel’s football team invited me to play for
them in a hotel tournament. By lucky coincidence Mr. Mohammed Al Habtoor was
also playing on the team… Not only did we go on to win the tournament but I was
lucky enough to be offered a position at the prestigious Al Habtoor Group by Mr. Al
Habtoor himself!
After a few months I transferred to Head Office to establish a new HR Department and
at the time there were only around 20 people working at Head Office. Now we have
in excess of 80 people. I have seen the company grow considerably since then, and
have seen a lot of expats come and go in that time.
Beside my regular responsibilities in Human Resources, it’s always a pleasure to fulfill
any additional challenges. For example I’ve been delighted to organise the Al Habtoor
Group football championships over the past few years… fulfilling one of my passions.
Our mission in HR is to maintain a fair, equitable, and positive working environment
for all employees, in support of the effective operation of the company. It is based
upon the belief that the success of any company and its ultimate value is primarily
dependent upon its people. Developing the potential of each employee will create job
satisfaction and career opportunities which in turn benefit the company.
With the fantastic support from our Chairman we launched the Employee Excellence
Awards, which enables us to reward the outstanding performances of our staff.
One of our current aims is to promote and recruit additional talent from UAE nation-
als as part of our ongoing Emiratisation Program which will be highly beneficial to the
company.
